‘Women with Gunpowder Earrings’ in contention at One World

Reza Farahmand’s ‘Women with Gunpowder Earrings’ is to vie at the 13th One World Festival in Brussels.

Reza Farahmand’s acclaimed film documentary ‘Women with Gunpowder Earrings’ is in line to be screened at the 13th annual One World Festival in Brussels.

On the sideline of the event, one of the organizers of the festival who is also a university professor is to instruct cinephiles on how the documentary has been made.

‘Women with Gunpowder Earrings’ has made its first international appearance at the 71st Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland.

The doc succeeded to grab award from the 16th Signes de Nuit International Film Festival in France where the jury hailed Farahmand’s bravery for taking the camera close to the subjects as they believed “it gives the audience a glimpse into the severe tensions on the front line, and people’s suffering.”

Farahmand’s latest production tells the story of a female journalist named Nur. Nur covers stories about Syrian and Iraqi women and children in the war against the Daesh terrorists.

More recently, the Millenium International Documentary Film Festival in Brussels granted the Grand Jury Prize for best documentary feature to ‘Women with Gunpowder Earrings’.

Award for best feature-length documentary and best director from the 11th Cinema Verite - Iran’s major international festival of documentary – is one of the many honors received by Farahmand as well.

The doc was also nominated for the best film from the audience's point of view at the Germany’s 2018 Dok Leipzig.

In a similar vein, Farahmand attended the 15th International Documentary Film Festival ZagrebDox in Croatia as well as the 8th ÍRÁN:CI Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

Marjan Alizadeh is the distributer of the documentary by Canada-based ArtHouse Cinematheque.

One World, which is an international human rights documentary film festival, kicked off on April 23, 2019 in Belgium and will run until April 30.
